Vitaliy Zherdyev Hi, friends! My name is Vitaliy Zherdyev. The beginning of my art education was in 1982 when I entered the Kharkov Fine Art Children’s School. During the following four years I gained the basic knowledge of painting and drawing. At the same time I took part in numerous exhibition of children’s art. In 1985 my works received second prize in the National Exhibition of Children’s Art in Moscow, USSR. In 1986 I entered Art-Pedagogical department of Kharkov State Fine Arts College. While practicing my skills and widening my knowledge of drawing, painting and composition I also took several courses in psychology and pedagog The original educational program for Children’s Fine Art Schools that I developed in 1989 took part in the National Contest and was awarded with Gold Medal of the National Economy Achievement Exhibition of the USSR, Moscow. My artistic achievements at that time included participation in several regional exhibitions. My final project was the triptych “Jordano Bruno The quest for trust” and was awarded by the Degree Committee. In 1990 I graduated from the Fine Arts College with Honors. During the following years I gained practical experience in etching working in the assistant position in the laboratory of Etching, Kharkov Institute of Industrial Arts. In 1991 I started my work for the Master of Art in restoration of Art Pieces degree in the Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts. My curriculum included many classes, like restoration of oil paintings, tempera paintings, conservation and technology of materials, painting, and drawing. I gained a lot of practical experience during this time. One of the most interesting projects during my studies was the developing of the restoration method and the restoration of well-known M. Fiodorov’s picture “God’s Fool” from Kharkov Fine Arts Museum. My Degree project was the restoration method and restoration for icons “Jesus Christ” and “St. Nicolas” from Sviatogorsk monaster; there were a few icons left after closure of the monastery in the 20-s. In 1997 I graduated from Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts, MA Honorary Diploma. My creative activity after the graduation from the Institute has several trends. The main trend of my work continues to be restoration of Art pieces and historical-religious subject in paintings, which became my leading interest. I also practice my skills in portrait genre. Working in this genre, I learned the basics of human psychology and I’m trying to emphasize the reflection of the human inner world in my paintings. Among my other artistic credits there was the work at the “TONIS” broadcasting company on art and design executive director position where I designed studios for the different programs. All my projects are originally designed and handmade. My cooperation with the “TONIS”-company made me very interested in design and I continue to work in different trends of it (e.g. fashion design, costume and decoration design for a theater). I have always been interested in the nature of human beings and that is why it the human being that my art is focused on; a human being in all his or her manifestations. If I make a religious composition, even then I try to concentrate on human relationships- the happiness of motherhood, tenderness, sorrow, devotion and love. Even in the sacraments of Nativity and Annunciation, the Virgin Mary appears at the foreground as an ordinary woman filled with typical human feelings and emotions. When I am working on a portrait it's not only likeness that is important to me, but also the inner world of the person which can be emphasized by their elements of interior, or by a gesture characteristic of this person. Somebody said: "Art is ruined by two factors- an artist who isn't a master, or a master who isn't an artist." I am really happy when I see this wonderful combination of perfect skill and creative work in any field of human activity, not only in Fine Arts, and I am striving to archive this. | ||||
